The pros and cons of blogging in the classroom

Blogs are an immensely popular source of information offering new ideas, advice, and inspiration. Blogging has become a trend "sparking debate over whether blogs would replace traditional media". But what are the pros and cons of having a classroom blog? We are future teachers, so should blogs be used as a tool for teaching classes? I'll try me best to answer these questions.
Let’s begin with the pros:
1.     Having a class blog that all the students could participate in would allow for creativity to flow between students.
2.     It opens the lines of communication outside of school hours.
3.     It keeps students involved so they are not just being lectured but rather they are taking education into their own hands.
4.     If you want to read other people’s blogs there are literally millions to choose from.
5.     Obviously, it’s fun and interesting!

And I want to point out some of the disadvantages of blogging.
1.     Not all students have access to computer and Internet.
2.     Being on the computer all day takes students away from being outside and being active.
3.     Anytime students are posting information on the Internet either about themselves, family, school, university etc., it poses a threat to them. Therefore there is a great need for the blog to secure to all outside people.
Surely, this is not all the advantages and disadvantages I can think of at the moment. And I would love to hear from other on their views about some pros and cons I have not thought of. To my mind, as a future teacher, I think blogs will be especially helpful and useful at the high school level. It is a great way for teachers to give feedback on their students. And the benefit of improved writing for pupils makes blogging a good source in the learning process.
